He is a jewelry producer based in Milan who makes his jewelry from A to Z, that means that he thinks and creates his jewelry on his own, cutting stones from the rough (also different kind of woods) and doing the parts in gold in his own workshop/lapidary in Milan. He has a small company, but quite well known in his niche.
He began cutting precious stones by chance when he was 16 and living in Bologna. In 1976, at 18, he started working for himself and moved to Milan.
He began to create pieces of jewellery around 1986.
His background work is the cutting of precious stones. He personally buys rough stones abroad in order to choose them and analyse them thoroughly to understand exactly what they can be turned into.
This craftsmanship is essential in the creation of his jewels because, apart from having the exact knowledge of what he can do with stones without causing useless conflicts, he use shapes, sizes and models absolutely outside the normal commercial markets, as he can have the rough stones cut in his workshops. Also, as far as the metal parts are concerned – only 18 carat gold – he can count/rely on his goldsmiths, people of great experience who transform his sketches and his wax or stone models into gold.
It’s more than 26 years now that he has started producing jelwes signed “Sanalitro”, which is a registered trademark.

Massimo Sanalitro says:

My jewels have a great impact on the market, they are innovative and are designed for a medium-high clientele. They are “extreme” but also extremely refined – a pun that I intentionally use – they radiate so much light and have such an appeal that they are usually worn on their own. My idea is that one piece must be enough, it must be noticed for its originality and emanate light, be extreme but refined at the same time.
I am convinced that what distinguishes a designed jewel from a simple bizarre is the harmony between shapes and the colours: In my stile important are proportions and lines. Very important are also the colours that have to mould together. Not many colours, please, and not too contrast between them!
