In 1961, after seventeen years as a worker and later as a technician with well-known manufacturers of slicing machines, Corrado Lanza, decided to take a chance and left his job to start his own business in Gallarate.
While his wife Fausta and a couple of workers were busy assembling machines in their two-room workshop, he would ride miles and miles on his motorbike with two or three sample machines tightly fastened to the baggage rack behind him and visit shopkeepers north and east of Milan. From time to time, he would stuff a small car with his machines and drive to the Veneto area, another good source of new clients and orders
This show-and-sell marketing technique was a big success as orders started to pour in even from abroad. One of the most powerful and long-lasting supports to success, word-to-mouth, opened new markets to Corrado's machines. Now F.A.C. exports more than 50% of its products to Europe, North and South America, Asia, and South Africa.
In 1973, Corrado and his wife Fausta, decided to move to their first real plant, a 200 sqm building in nearby Cavaria. They soon had to add another 200 sqm, then 500, then 1,000. Although F.A.C. now resorts to outsourcing, their 4.500 sqm assembly plant and 500 sqm stores have become too small again. So the plants were expanded again.
F.A.C. is in the hands of a close-knit family. With an eye to the future, Corrado Lanza had called his young relatives to help him and patiently taught them the basics of slicing machines. The new generation has now stepped in to look after vario
