Die Familie Rottensteiner ist eine der ältesten Familien Südtirols und schon seit vielen Generationen mit dem Weinbau verbunden. Davon zeugt der Familiennamen selbst, der von den rot gefärbten Felsen der Berge rund um Bozen kommt, dem Porphyr. Die Kellerei wurde 1956 von Hans Rottensteiner gegründet.
Die Familie Rottensteiner stammt aus dem Weindorf St. Magdalena, und noch heute spielt der St. Magdalener die wichtigste Rolle im Angebot der Kellerei, die der zweitwichtigste Produzent dieser DOC Südtirols ist. Der „Premstallerhof“ schließlich ist einer der wenigen St. Magdalener, die es geschafft haben, die Endausscheidung des prestige-trächtigen „Gambero Rosso“ zu erreichen.
Die zweite zu beachtende Sorte ist der Lagrein, der andere typische Bozner Wein. Aus dieser Sorte werden drei verschiedene Weine gewonnen, darunter ein Rosé. Alle drei gehören zu den Referenzpunkten in der Welt des Südtiroler Lagrein, wobei der im Barrique gereifte „Select“ hervorzuheben ist. Bei den Weißweinen können drei Sorten zu den Perlen im Sortiment gezählt werden: Weißburgunder, Gewürztraminer und Müller Thurgau.

La famiglia Rottensteiner è una delle più vecchie famiglie dell’Alto Adige, e già da molte generazioni è collegata alla viticoltura. Questo fatto è testimoniato anche dal cognome stesso, che deriva dal colore rosso dei terreni porfidici attorno a Bolzano; infatti, in tedesco “Stein” significa pietra e “Rot” rosso. La cantina fu fondata nel 1956. La famiglia Rottensteiner pone la maggior attenzione ai vini specifici ed autoctoni per rispettare al massimo la tipicità del prodotto, l’espressione di varietà e territorio. Proprio per questo motivo i vini principali sono le varietà tipiche di Bolzano: il Santa Maddalena e il Lagrein. La selezione di Santa Maddalena, il “Premstallerhof”, ogni anno è fra i top assoluti ed è uno dei pochi vini di questo tipo che ha raggiunto la finale del Gambero Rosso. Seconda varietà da tenere d’occhio è il Lagrein, anche lui tipico vino “bolzanino”. Vengono prodotti ben tre differenti vini, uno di cui rosato, e tutti e tre sono diventati dei punti di riferimento nel mondo enologico della provincia, soprattutto il “Select”, affinato in barrique. Tra i bianchi sono tre le proprie perle di Rottensteiner: Gewürztraminer, Pinot Bianco e Müller Thurgau.

This shows also the family name, which derives from the red coloured rock of the mountains around Bolzano, the porphyry. The winery Cantina Vini Hans Rottensteiner S.r.l. began its activity in 1956. Elegance and a pleasant drinking these are the fundaments of the Rottensteiner wines which are built on the expression of the variety, his typicity and the terroir. The Rottensteiner family concentrates the attention on the typical South Tyrolean varieties, namely Schiava, Lagrein and Gewürztraminer. The St. Magdalener DOC “Premstallerhof” is one of the few St. Magdalener reaching the final tasting of “Gambero Rosso”, the most important wine guide of Italy. The second variety to consider is the Lagrein, the other typical wine of Bolzano. This variety gives life to three different wines, two red ones and one rosé. They all belong to the reference points of the world of Lagrein, specially the oak-aged “Select”. In the range of white wines, the most reasonable once are the Pinot Blanc, the Gewürztraminer and the Müller Thurgau.
