Die Museen:

Das Messner Mountain Museum ist eine Begegnungsstätte mit dem Berg, mit der Menschheit und letztlich auch mit sich selbst.
Mit einem zentralen Museum in Sigmundskron und vier Ablegern, in denen Einzelthemen behandelt werden, schafft Reinhold Messner ein Bergmuseum, das einmalig ist. Als seinen „15. Achttausender“ bezeichnet Messner selbst dieses Projekt. Hier gibt er sein Wissen, seine Erfahrungen und die Geschichten, welche aus den Begegnungen zwischen Mensch und Berg entstehen, an den Besucher weiter.

Reinhold Messner ha dedicato alla montagna e alle sue culture uno spazio museale. Nasce così il progetto Messner Mountain Museum, che l’alpinista considera il suo 15° Ottomila. È il luogo in cui Reinhold Messner rende visibile e fruibile la propria eredità: le conoscenze, le esperienze, le storie dell’incontro tra uomo e montagna.

Il progetto museale comprende attualmente cinque preziosi tasselli: MMM Firmian, la sede centrale ubicata a Castel Firmiano nei pressi di Bolzano; MMM Juval in Val Venosta dedicato al mito e alla sacralità della montagna; MMM Ortles a Solda illustra il mondo dei ghiacci; MMM Dolomites sul Monte Rite nel Cadore parla di roccia e di alpinismo dolomitico e nel 2011 ha aperto il museo dedicato ai popoli di montagna, MMM Ripa, nel Castello di Brunico in val Pusteria.

The museums:

With a central museum in Sigmundskron and four branch museums devoted to individual themes, Reinhold Messner has created a mountain museum that is truly unique. He describes the project as his “15th ascent over 8000 metres” – and makes use of it to communicate to visitors his knowledge and experience and the stories that derive from man’s encounter with the mountains.
MMM currently comprises four museums: MMM Firmian in Sigmundskron Castle near Bozen is the heart of the Mountain Museum; MMM Ortles in Sulden is devoted to the glaciers and the world of eternal ice; at MMM Dolomites on Monte Rite south of Cortina the focus is on rock and mountain climbing in the Dolomites; MMM Juval in Juval Castle in Vinschgau relates the myths of the mountain. The fifth mountain museum MMM Ripa in Bruneck Castle tells the story of the mountain peoples.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in June and from the middle of September;
