Vecchiato Arte Company Information

Informazioni Generali

Vecchiato Arte is a group of Galleries in constant development and research.
It consists of two complementary parts, Vecchiato New and Vecchiato Historical. These two galleries work together to organize and promote both Historical, International and emerging artists with many of whom it has exclusive contracts.

The gallery also distinguishes itself for its ability to perceive new world trends, being one of the first in Italy, for example, to organise an important exhibition with contemporary Chinese artists (Made in China, Padua, 2006).
The nucleus of the Vecchiato Art Galleries was established in 1986 by Dante Vecchiato at Padua and the inauguration was attended by the major exponents of 20th century Italian art such as Sironi, Campigli, Afro, Burri, Vedova and Fontana. The following year great results were achieved with personal exhibition on Spatialism by the founder and a collective exhibition in which carefully selected works of the greatest masters appeared.
As the gallery manager Dante Vecchiato was open to all artistic movements and had presented works by artists of the New Realism movement such as Cèsar, Arman and Christo, and the Informal movement organising personal exhibitions by Tancredi, Santomaso, Afro and Vedova. The gallery has also focused on Latin-American art with Matta Lam, and being sensitive to the charm of Pop-Art, it organised a memorable personal exhibition by Andy Warhol in 1991. The gallery continues to support the work of Italian masters such as Morandi, Campigli, De Chirico, Savinio, Rosai and De Pisis.
The gallery’s interest moved also toward Contemporary Chinese Art, presenting their current tendencies and researches.
The Gallery Collection includes the main masters of the artistic movements of the 19th Century, from Spatialism to the Informal, Noveau Realisme Art Brut, Trans-vanguard, Pop-Art, Conceptual Art, Action Painting (with Fontana, Afro, Burri, Vedova, Mathieu, Arman, Spoerri, Hains, Christo, Pistoletto, De Dominicis, Cucchi, Warhol, Basquiat, Tobey, Sam Francis, and many others), that are considered the leaders in aesthetic research over the last fifty years.

In 1997 the gallery manager Dante Vecchiato decided to open a new gallery in Padua which would host a personal exhibition of Afro (Basaldella). This was followed by new galleries at Vicenza, Forte dei Marmi and Cortina d'Ampezzo. All of these exhibit the works of acclaimed and emerging artists: to mention but a few Tribute to Emilio Vedova, May 1998, Padua; Tribute to Giorgio De Chirico, October 1998, Padua, with a catalogue edited by the well-known critic Achille Bonito Oliva; Tribute to Filippo De Pisis, May 1999, Padua; Tribute to Fernando Botero and The Gallery Collection +, July 2000, Forte dei Marmi; a personal exhibition by Arman, June 2001, Padua, and participation in setting up the Antichi Granai di Venezia as a fringe event of the Contemporary Art Biennial in cooperation with the Mudima Foundation, an exhibition that ratified indelibly the exclusivity contract which has linked Dante Vecchiato to the great master since 1998.
In 1999 the artist Jean Michel Basquiat was the absolute protagonist of the gallery’s plans. An exhibition was organised with thirty great masterpieces by the artist in the galleries of Forte dei Marmi and Cortina.
During the same years the Italian edition of the general catalogue of the Afro-American artist enjoyed immense success. Published jointly with Galerie Enrico Navarra of Paris, the catalogue was previewed at the Peggy Guggenheim Foundation of Venice in the presence of 500 guests and the participation in the press conference of personalities such as Luca Massimo Barbero, Enrico Navarra and the gallery manager of Basquiat himself, Tony Shafrazy.
Many contracts have also been signed with artists whose importance has been growing over the years such as Cesare Berlingeri and Rabarama . This has enabled Dante Vecchiato to earn the title of “Talent Scout”.
The work with these artists has led to an increasingly open attitude to foreign artists, without neglecting non-European countries, and to devote more energy into foreign investments (organisation of exhibitions, foreign assignments, cooperation with foreign galleries, etc) and to concentrate its activities in Italy in the mother gallery in Padua with a plan to expand it and close the smaller galleries outside the city.
The work of the gallery then gives a great deal of emphasis to contemporary Italian art in the world and many events connected with this have involved various museums reaching overseas even as far as the United States (Contemporary Art Museum of Boca Raton, Florida), Mexico (Olmeto Patino Musem, Mexico City), Venezuela (Gardens of La Estancia Cultural Centre, Caracas), China (Millennium Monument, Beijing and Exhibition Hall of ShenZhen and Shangai), without forgetting European countries such as France (Place du Panteon, Paris and the Fleury Musem, Lodève).
The year 2006 was very important for the Vecchiato Art Gallery, culminating in the opening of a brand new gallery in Padua with a modern design conceived as a loft in which avant-garde technology offers an innovative way to appreciate the works of art.
On 16 March of the same year, the Made in China exhibition was inaugurated in the new gallery with the works of eleven contemporary Chinese artists selected personally by Dante Vecchiato. The event, which was presented by Virginia Baradel, displays works characterised by two important aspects, a background of tradition and stratified memories that gradually fade away while new ones appear, and a fresh imaginative vigour not contaminated by continual western innovations. The result is a kind of Chinese trans-avant-garde in which realism, surrealism and Pop art are blended.
The same gallery also hosted the exhibition entitled 5 Nouveau Réalisme in June with works by Christo, Hains, Spoerri, César and Arman, artists for whom Dante Vecchiato has always shown a special interest, and another in October dedicated to the salient moments of the entire artistic period of the father of Pop Art, Andy Warhol.
In 2007 we had the exhibition entitled Villeglé, The decollage of a big Master, Cesare Berlingeri, Vele per nessun mare, The art of David Hamilton, in the photographic gallery, then the personal exhibition of Rabarama, Dreams of Transformation.
In 2008, there was the exhibition entitled Arman. Le Grandi Opere, which charmed the public showing a fascinating summary of the Nice-born artist’s career. A few months later Senza Regole opened, a collective exhibition of emerging artists that once again confirmed Vecchiato Art Galleries’s constant research activities with their “over the top” works.
In the same year the public also appreciated the exhibition “A stretto giro”, presenting works by the artists Marco Nereo Rotelli, Silvio Fiorenzo and Lorenzo Fonda.

At the same time, the Gallery’s staff is always looking forward with national and international events such as Rabarama in Cesena and Cesenatico, an occasion on which her sculptures were exhibited in the public spaces of these two Italian cities. Then the exhibition Rabarama Sculptures en plein-air, and Rabarama in Mizner Park at the Boca Raton Museum, near Miami. Rabarama’s monumental sculptures are thus appreciated by both the public of Ville Lumiere and the sunny state of Florida.

With the opening on December the 12th 2008 of the new exhibition area in Via Santa Marta close to Milan Cathedral the quality of the research and the ability to anticipate new artistic tendencies, that have been for years the characteristics that identify the Vecchiato Art Galleries, are confirmed once again.
With the opening of this area art lovers can appreciate this new generation of Chinese artists, for which there is a high demand in the art market, and a special selection of works of Indian and Egyptian vanguards, plus a look back at the masters of American Pop Art, such as the Keith Haring exhibition, under the curatorship for this occasion of the famous critic Luca Beatrice.

Since 2008 the Vecchiato Gallery has also started to use a television channel which focuses on the best in art in an attempt to introduce the public at large to the new works at the Gallery with live television programmes on digital terrestrial and satellite television channels.

The summer of 2011 saw the creation of a new project: the opening of an exhibition area at Pietrasanta, a fertile cultural and artistic centre and a destination for both artists and collectors in search of new sensations.

For the past two years the work of Dante Vecchiato has been taken over by his sister Cinzia who has worked together with her brother for a long time in the management of the galleries. She was responsible in particular for the organisation of the exhibition entitled Anti-conforme in which no less than 30 works by Rabarama were on display from June to September 2011 in Florence at the Le Pagliere complex, the Garden of the Royal Stables, Piazza Pitti and the Boboli Gardens.

Another important goal was the participation in Rabarama at the Venice Biennial, the 54th International Art Exhibition and attention in new media and new technology. It was in this direction that in 2011 the first experiment in the world was carried out in 360° 3D Mapping Projection live on a sculpture by Rabarama and increasing importance has been given to Internet as a channel for promotion, contact and sales with the inauguration in 2012 of the first Italian experiment in contemporary art sales on Facebook (Vecchiato stART).
In the same year the central gallery of Padua was extended and a space was created dedicated exclusively to television (live, recordings, internet live streaming) and multimedia production.
