Il Castello del Nero - Torrigiani ebbe
origine nel XII secolo, quando divenne
la residenza di campagna della nobile
famiglia fiorentina dei Del Nero, di cui
facevano parte gonfalonieri e priori
della città e personalità di spicco quali
Francesco Del Nero, protettore di
Machiavelli, e Filippo Neri, santificato
nel XVII secolo, entrambi vissuti nel 1500.
Nel 1825, a seguito dell’estinzione della
famiglia dei Del Nero, la proprietà passò
tramite matrimonio ai Torrigiani, già
grandi proprietari terrieri in Toscana. Il
Marchese Carlo Torrigiani, impegnato
anche politicamente, ricoprì dal 1891 e
per diciannove anni il ruolo di Sindaco del
neocomune di Tavarnelle Val di Pesa. Con
l’aiuto della moglie americana Anna Fry,
dedicò molta attenzione allo sviluppo e
ammodernamento delle attività produttive
della fattoria nel XIX e XX secolo.
La ristrutturazione di Castello del Nero
Hotel & Spa è stata curata da Robert T.
Trotta, l’immobiliarista americano che,
innamoratosi a prima vista della bellissima
proprietà toscana nel 2000, ha deciso di
riportarla alla luce trasformandola in un
hotel di lusso di fama mondiale. “Ho voluto
che Castello del Nero rappresentasse
Un’Autentica Esperienza Toscana,
rispecchiando la mia visione di un hotel
di alto livello”, racconta Robert T. Trotta. Il
retaggio familiare, l’amore per la cultura
italiana assieme al tocco magico del
noto immobiliarista, hanno rappresentato
gli ingredienti perfetti per approcciarsi
con rispetto ad una struttura millenaria
creando, al contempo, il rifugio ideale per
l’Ospite internazionale più esigente.

Castello del Nero - Torrigiani finds its origins
in the 12th century, when it became the
country residence of the noble Florentine
family Del Nero, members of which were
gonfalonieri and priors of the city and
prominent 16th century figures to include
Francesco Del Nero protector of Machiavelli
and Filippo Neri, sanctified in the 17th
century. In 1825, following the extinction
of the Del Nero family and as the result
of a combined marriage, the estate was
completely taken over by the Torrigiani
family, great landowners in Tuscany. The
Marquis Carlo Torrigiani was also politically
engaged and from 1891 for nineteen years
was the Mayor of the brand new municipality
of Tavarnelle Val di Pesa. Together with
his American wife Anna Fry, he put great
attention into increasing and modernizing the
production activities of the farm throughout
the late 19th and early 20th century.
Robert T. Trotta is the international real
estate developer behind the restoration of
the luxurious Castello del Nero Hotel &
Spa. After falling in love with the beautiful
Tuscan property on first sight in 2000, he
decided to bring the property back to life as
a world-class luxury hotel. In his own words:
“I wanted it to be An Authentic Tuscan
Experience that matched the vision I had in
my mind of a world-class luxury hotel.”
His Italian family heritage and love of
Italian culture together with Trotta’s magic
touch were important ingredients in paying
