LiMiX Srl è uno spin-off Unicam nato a marzo 2015 dalla sezione di matematica e applicazioni.
LiMiX lavora nella ricerca tecnologica, con particolare attenzione all’ambito del Riconoscimento Gestuale.
Il prodotto di punta è Talking Hands, un dispositivo indossabile che consente la traduzione della LIS (Lingua dei Segni Italiana). Con l’utilizzo di Talking Hands, una persona sorda segnante, ovvero che utilizza quotidianamente la LIS, può “parlare” e comunicare anche con le persone che non comprendono la lingua dei segni.
Il dispositivo è costituito da due guanti che comprendono la sensoristica necessaria per acquisire i dati relativi al movimento delle mani, delle braccia e delle dita.
Questi segnali vengono poi elaborati e analizzati, così da tradurre in testo le singole parole.
Trasferendo il testo tradotto con una comunicazione senza fili ad un dispositivo dotato di altoparlanti, ad esempio uno smartphone, i segni prenderanno voce!
Talking Hands è un prodotto che - ci auguriamo - apporterà un significativo aumento alla qualità della vita delle persone sorde, ancora troppo escluse in numerosi ambienti sociali.

Today in Italy there are more than 100.000 deaf people: their disability relegates them to the fringes of society. Deaf people read the words by deciphering the lips movements of who is speaking. However, they experience great difficulty in communicating because they cannot be understood by people who do not know their sign language. LIMIX Srl and our research group aims to improve the quality of their life.

Our solution is Talking Hands, a device that translates gestures of the sign language into voice. It can interpret the hands movements while a gesture is being made, translate and transfer it to a device equipped with speakers, such as smartphones or bluetooth speakers. Then signs can raise their voice!

The realization of Talking Hands requires advanced skills in electronics for the hardware, math modeling and optimization algorithms for gesture recognition, software and embedded computing for optimized implementation of algorithms and wireless communications of the various components. For this purpose, our research group is composed by mathematics, engineering, electronics engineers and computer scientists from UNICAM, and by business companies already cooperating with the University for a long time.

Talking Hands is a tool that will improve the lives of many people, helping their integration in all areas of society by giving them greater autonomy, safety and personal gratification.
